On April 14, 2005 we were pleased to welcome the Bossov Ballet Theatre
to the Williamson Center for a private performance for the Gray
Team. Our hope was to expose our students to an art form with
which many are unfamiliar. Though the art of ballet may not be
for everyone, each person in attendance came away with a newfound
respect for the artistry, strength, athleticism and dedication
necessary to call oneself a student of of ballet. We
were particularly pleased to welcome to the stage two members of the
Gray Team, one in Grade 8 this year, and one currently a freshman at
LHS, who also study and perform with the Bossov.
The Bossov Ballet Theatre is
headed by Andrei Bossov. Andrei was the principle dancer with the Kirov
Ballet in Russia. During his 20-year career as Principal Dancer,
Choreographer, and Teacher he became one of the world's best known
artists. A veteran of numerous international tours, Andrei
continues direct, choreograph, perform, and teach.
Natalya Nikolaevna Getman is a faculty member at the Bossov Ballet
Theatre, and has an extensive dance background: She was a
gymnastics
champion by the age of ten and studied dance at the Leningrad Academy
Choreographic School. In 1993, Natalya graduated with honors from
the Uzbek Choreographic School. Upon graduation from the Uzbek
School, she joined the Turkmenistan State Theater of Ballet and
Opera. She joined the Moscow Ballet in 1995 and worked with many
of the most famous names in ballet today.
Mr. Bossov and Ms. Getman prepared and delivered a presentation for the
Gray Team designed to serve as an introduction to the art of
ballet. The development and evolution of the art form was
discussed and demonstrated by some of the Bossov's dancers.
